PE
2C will have their weekly PE lesson with Mr Vyse on a Thursday morning. Children will need a white t-shirt, black shorts/leggings and trainers that should be clearly marked with their names. P.E bags are to be kept in school until the end of each half term as we may do sport outside of these times.
Spellings:
Our weekly spelling challenges will be every Tuesday. Spellings will be sent home for your child to practice in a way that is fun for them. Spellings in Year 2 are made up of common exception words (tricky words) and spelling patterns, which are taught during lessons.
Reading
Children will take home two books:
- Reading books are closely matched to your child’s decoding ability to ensure that they can independently practice their early reading skills. In order for reading books to be changed, a signature is required in the comment section of their reading record.
- Class Library Books are clearly marked with a sticker. These books are to share with your child and give them the opportunity to read for pleasure with someone at home.
Reading books will be changed every Monday and Thursday.
Library books will be changed every Monday.
Please ensure your child has their book bag in school each day, even if they do not need to change their book. We will be reading with children during the week, so require both the book and reading record in order to do so.
Homework
Homework are activities, or work that children are asked to do outside lesson time, either on their own or with parents or carers. They will be short activities of different kinds – spellings, simple games, number facts, and, of course, reading together.
Please read regular a home, at least 10 minutes, four times a week. Before bed is a great time to share a story.
Some games and activities will be set through Purple Mash. Login details can be found at the front of their reading record.
I also encourage you to provide an opportunity to talk to your child about what they are learning and to practise key skills. Our class webpage has information about what we will be learning each half term…in case they ‘can’t remember’.
NUMBOTS
NumBots is an online maths game which supports children with their understanding, recall and fluency in mental addition and subtraction, so that they move from counting to calculating. Playing little and often will significantly improve your child’s recall and understanding of number bonds and addition and subtraction facts. NumBots can be downloaded free as an app on an iphone, ipad or android device. Login details can be found in the front of their reading record.
